After the Kansas City Royals won the World Series Championship in 2015, team sponsor McCormick Distilling Co. wanted to create a limited edition commemorative bottle to honor the team’s achievement. Patrick Fee, the Director of Marketing at McCormick Distilling Co., knew he wanted a see-through look with the Royals Crown highlighted in the background of the company’s flagship 360 Vodka bottle. But he also wanted the crown to reflect a glow to the face label when light was shown through the bottle on a bar back shelf. We’re proud to have been on the team for this truly championship package.
Having worked with Fort Dearborn Company on the company’s 2014 limited edition commemorative bottle honoring the Royals League Championship, Patrick once again contacted us to collaborate on the label’s design. Through discussions that related to the look and feel of the labels as well as creating prototypes to show the finishing and coating options available, the final printed labels resulted in a truly world champion look. Patrick was on-site and worked together with our team to dial in the final details. This was achieved by selecting a material that was transparent enough to allow the light needed to create the glow effect but could also support the premium look. Experimenting with a couple of contrast coatings, Patrick selected a rich gloss varnish that created a luster in the Royals Blue and brought out the sparkle in the hot stamp to create a bottle worthy of any trophy case.

The 360 Vodka / Kansas City Royals World Championship package was an extremely high-profile project for McCormick Distilling Co. Our standards are high when it comes to packaging design and printing execution. Add to those standards the standards of the Royals and MLB and you’ll get a sense of just how important this project was to our company and partnership. Fort Dearborn Company worked closely with me in delivering what we think is one of the best-designed packages on the shelf. We were able to test and tweak on-site until we had labels that best achieved the look we wanted. All of us at McCormick greatly appreciate the extra time and effort put forth by Fort Dearborn to make this package the enormous success that it has been. A truly collectible, limited-edition package designed to stay on the back bar of Royals fans for years to come.
